The Newport Robotics Group (NRG) is a FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team based out of Newport High School in Bellevue Washington. As an FRC team, each year, NRG designs and builds a robot capable of competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition. This task is not easy. Besides the obvious engineering challenges involved in building a sophisticated robot in such a short time, the members of NRG also need to raise the funds to achieve their goals. All of these responsibilities and experience placed upon the members of NRG develop them into individuals passionate about technology and innovation and send them into the greater academic world ready to take the lead on the cutting edge of innovation of all kinds, be it technological, business or any other field they should chose to endeavor into.

This year, our team began an epic foray into the field of FIRST Lego League teams. We created the teams this year in an effort to bring the ideals of FIRST to a wider sampling of the students in our area, and I the process became a part of something much bigger than ourselves. We were so excited by our successful season that we just had to share it with you!

A few weeks ago some NRG members were interviewed at Newport High School for a future piece in the Bellevue Reporter, a local newspaper.  We told the reporter all about the FIRST program, our organization, and our numerous outreach programs.  Just recently, the promised piece went online and can now be found here.  Hit the "read more" link to see the article in whole!

  • Tony Grosing : Austin, Something went wrong with the Wiki install. There are no images or templates, just a list of code. please let me know if this is only on my end
  • Nick : I liked the team picture. Put it back... please?
  • Neil Ball : I cut it off as part of the 'read more.'
  • Arthur Cheng : Picture disappeared! I thought it looked nice...
  • Austin Davis : Looks nice. Maybe a blank line between it and the text above it?
  • Neil Ball : Any thoughts on the team picture on the frontpage?
  • Neil Ball : The animation is up on YouTube: «link»
  • Neil Ball : Never mind. I got it working. Hey everyone, check out the new image and video galleries!
  • Neil Ball : I am trying to get Expose working on the site but I can't get it to install natively. Matt, any ideas?
  • Neil Ball : You now have it.
  • Tony Grosing : can I have author privileges if I need to write articles? Or should I just send something to Neil?
  • Tony Grosing : The calendar says that there is a meeting at Renton Voc Tech on the 31st. is this true?
  • Neil Ball : If you want to write it, give a shout here.
  • Neil Ball : We need a new version of 'FIRST Lego League Testimonials' for this past FLL season.
  • Neil Ball : I have posted a mechanical blog from last Saturday's meeting. If anyone would like to add content to it or edit it, please feel free to do so. Also, if anyone has any pictures from that meeting, I would appreciate them.
  • Matt Anderso : Good call on the cache refresh! Worked like a charm
  • Neil Ball : btw matt, you may need to clear your cache to get it working.
  • Matt Anderso : Neil: you need to delegate those articles ASAP. We want them online.
  • Matt Anderso : The editors thing is just on my machine...I guess a reboot is in order.
  • Neil Ball : I am messing with the editors a lot right now. You may need to copy the text and re-enter it into a newly started article.
  • Matt Anderso : I'm also unable to select a category when writing an article after choosing the Blog super-category/section...
  • Neil Ball : I am currently fixing some issues regarding that... Ill get back to you shortly.
  • Matt Anderso : Is there an easy way to resize images in the editor? I seem to remember being able to before but the last article I wrote with a picture I ended up resizing by editing the html code...this isn't exactly ideal for regular users
  • Neil Ball : By the way, I disabled the JCE editor when I was troubleshooting the IE issue and forgot to enable it again. I have just now enabled it again. I apologize for any inconvenience.
  • Neil Ball : Yes it is, though we are in the process of replacing it with a real banner so changing the logo now wouldn't be very practical.
